In the 1930's the Hansberry family became famous when their landmark case about segregation and violence was supported by the Supreme Court.

As the oldest child of the Hansberry family, Lorraine experienced her parent's victory first hand, and longed to make a difference. She turned to a friend of the family for advice, Paul Robeson, and he invited her to write for Freedom, a revolutionary Black magazine. It was there that she got her start in writing about racial equality.

Lorraine's search to be authentic in every way lead her to eventually write the play A Raisin in the Sun.

Written by Jay Leslie. Illustrated by Loveis Wise.

Hardcover (English). Recommended for Ages: 6-9 years.
